I met Michael three years ago when I transferred to St. Edward’s. I believe I may have told this story before, so bear with me if I have. I first met his then-girlfriend at this awesome retreat called LeaderShape. She talked about him during LeaderShape and it wasn’t until a few weeks later that I pieced together that Michael was Yvette’s boyfriend. I met Michael in Student Government Association. I had just come on as the Communication Director in the Spring semester and he was a Senator. Over the past three years we both stayed in Student Government and developed a close friendship along the way. It made me so happy to be able to take his graduation portraits. We originally wanted to go Laguna Gloria, but it was closed when we went, so we headed back to campus. Even though Michael wasn’t too keen on taking photos on campus, I think it is fitting. He spent the past four years on this campus, and I know he loves St. Ed’s. We went to the classic spots around campus: in front of Main and the red doors. We then went behind Main and Michael had this great idea of getting Main’s tower behind him. With a little bit of maneuvering on a fountain (the fountain wasn’t on) I was able to get the shot he wanted. It was a great shoot and I am so glad that I got to take his photos. He’s been a great friend for the past three years and I know that our friendship will continue on after he graduates.
Michael will be moving to Oklahoma for Teach for America where he will teach English.
