You know what’s fun? Getting to see a HUGE family during their reunion and take photos of them! I met the Windhager family at an Air BnB they were renting for the weekend on Lake Travis. Lake Travis is about 45 minutes outside of Austin proper, and the house they rented sat on the lake; as in, there was platform that lowered down to the lake edge where people could get into the water or boat house below.
There were over 30 members of the Windhager family in attendance for the reunion. Honestly, I had no idea how it would go shooting so many people! I always prepare for shoots with getting a list of all the desired photos and groupings that the family wants, scoping out a location (or in this case looking at photos online), and getting an idea of the different ages. However, with so many people I went in knowing that I had to roll with whatever I was walking in to.
One of the things that I enjoy about extended family sessions are all the different relationships that are intermingled. While it is mostly about the family and group photos, I got to take photos of a few high school seniors, a future mama, and couples of different generations. I have to say that the sweetest photos are of Mr. and Mrs. Windhager celebrating 60 years of marriage!
