It was one of the first signs of Spring when I met with Alissa: sitting outside of Stonehouse Coffee Shop’s porch wearing a sundress and sipping coffee. Not going to lie, Alissa caught me a little off guard when she inquired about a grad session. She caught me off guard because I hadn’t even planned out my St. Edward’s special yet! However, after much reflection, I was able to create a wonderful discounted special for my fellow Hilltoppers.
When I met with Alissa, we talked about her time at St. Ed’s, her involvement with Campus Ministry, and her study abroad trip to South Korea. Alissa is achieving her bachelor’s degree in Social Work and will go back to school for her master’s in Social Work - after her term of teaching English in South Korea. Alissa is a Fulbright recipient and will go back to South Korea to teach English! Alissa fell in love with the country during her study abroad, so going back is a dream come true for her! Don’t know what Fulbright is? Well, it’s a big deal. Fulbright gives recent graduates an opportunity to study or do research in a different country. It’s extremely competitive because only a handful of grants are given out each year. A huge congrats to Alissa for receiving one!
Alissa’s mother, stepfather, and boyfriend all came along for her grad session. I was able to grab a few photos with the parents, much to stepdad’s grimace, but I believe even the unexpected photos are special. Sam, Alissa’s boyfriend, was the primary plus one for her shoot. The two have been dating for over a year, and they met on Bumble! They are a success story for dating apps for sure. Sam attends the University of Texas and sported his UT spirit during the shoot by doing a hook 'em while Alissa showed her toppers up! You gotta admit, even though Sam attended UT, he and Alissa make an adorable couple!
