Exploring and Experimenting with Photography
There’s something about exploring and shooting for the sake of creating and for fun. I’ve always had ideas in the back of my mind for different shoots in order to create, what I think, is cool stuff. At the beginning of the year, I started to feel a little down about my photography skills. I started comparing myself to all my photographer friends who are booking clients and work. I then decided to throw my hands up in the air, give it up to God, and find a way to shoot for the sake of loving it. I know that being a photographer is part of me. It fuels my soul. It gives me peace.
When I decided to stop comparing myself, do what I want to do, and shoot for the sake of loving it, everything seemed to fall in order. I booked a few events to photograph, but more importantly, I started connecting with tons of models to execute the shoots that have been in the back of my head for a while.
As I write this, I look at my calendar and see how many shoots I have this month. I’m shooting every weekend! Are all these shoots for clients? No. A lot of it is personal work, but it’s work that’s fueling the creative fire in me. It’s giving me the chance to explore - not only locations, but ideas in a free space.
Abbie was the first mode for me to work with. I’ve always wanted to photograph in a greenhouse. We explored the Barton Springs Nursery during golden hour, and I loved being able to try new things without being worried whether this is something the client wants or not.
I am so excited to see where my creativity goes for the rest of March!
