Marcia R. | Seaholm District Portraits | Austin, TX
Honestly, if I could do photography purely for fun and not as a job, I would. Unfortunately, camera equipment is expensive and I have student loans to pay off. However, I enjoy meeting up with people to explore a new area, chat over coffee and shoot.
I met Marcia through a Facebook group when I was working on my Women Warrior concept series. First off, she was wonderful to work with for the concept shoot! She took my direction flawlessly and brought her own ideas. You can check out her series as the Indonesian Warrior here. Since that shoot, we’ve stayed in touch with grabbing dinner and coffee and shooting.
One Sunday morning, we met up at the Seaholm area to explore and shoot. Seaholm is a newly renovated area with shops and restaurants near the old Seaholm power plant. I always love when I get to go out and shoot with a friend just for fun because we get to try new things without the stress of messing up on a client. I had her climbing scaffoldings! Marcia wore a shirt from the Golden Bones boutique in the domain; funny thing is, the shirt is actually two sizes too big on her, but Marcia really wanted the shirt even though they didn’t have it in her size. Who wouldn’t want a shirt that says “Lasagna Del Rey”?
After shooting, we went to get coffee at Merit to sit and talk for a little bit. That’s what’s important to me about this side hustle of mine: connecting with other people and getting to know their story and their life.
